Carrigs
Intermediates started this year’s championship in fantastic
style with a great win over Aghada on Sunday the 6th of May. Castlemartyr
was the venue on a damp evening but with the ground in super condition
helping to improve conditions for hurling. Following a few poor recent
performances it was time for Carrig to stand up again and be counted.
Aghada opened the scoring with a pointed free in the first minute
but Niall Mac who levelled a minute later soon cancelled this out.
Niall was on hand again soon after to put Carrig in front and establish
a lead which Aghada would never get back. With only 4 minutes gone
Robert White hit a goal, which was followed by a point from Brian
Lordan. This seemed to give Aghada the kick they needed and responded
with 4 points before Niall Mac re-established momentum with a point
from play followed by 3 more again from White and Lordan and McCarthy.
Donie Collins finished the scoring for the half with a point in the
26th minute. To give a half time scoreline of Carrig 1-08 Aghada0-06.
Carrig started the second half as they finished the first taking only
45 seconds to score with a great point from Carrigs captain Jason
Barrett. Niall Mac scored 2 more before Michael O Riordan opened his
account. Aghada failed to score for the first 18 minutes and when
they did they scored 2. Carrigs reply couldn’t have been better.
Sub Michael Barry who came on full forward scored the goal, which
sealed the result. Carrig added another point from Niall Mac before
Robert White popped up to score his second goal of the game. Aghada
scored a late conciliation goal, which only made the score line, look
respectable. Final score Carrig 3-13 Aghada 1-09.
