Launch of this year's County Championship
As county champions Carrigtwohill were invited by the Cork County Board to host the launch of this year's championship. The event took place in Fota Island Golf Club on Monday May 21st and was attended by members of the local media along with players and managers/selectors from eleven clubs around the county. The eight quarter-finalists from last year's senior championship were invited to send representatives and seven duly turned up; Midleton sent their apologies.
The senior championship has been going on for a number of weeks with the divisional teams and the third level colleges playing off but the clubs enter the fray this weekend with eight matches down for decision. Carrig begin the defence of their title against last year's intermediate champions Courcey Rovers at 8 pm in Pairc Ui Rinn on Saturday night. The meeting of Na Piarsaigh and Douglas is the curtain raiser.

Senior League v St Finbarrs in Togher on Thursday 5th April 2012
St Finbarrs 4-10 Carrigtwohill 1-18
A touch of deja-vu about this senior hurling league match. Like the first round Bishopstown game, a trip to the city suburbs ended in a gut-wrenching one point defeat due to the concession of an injury time goal.

Willie John Donates Hurling Medals to the Club.
Willie John Daly, our esteemed former President, and Cork and Carrig hurling star, has very generously gifted the club with a 1918 Senior County winning medal and a 1915 Junior County winning medal which he received many years ago from players on the winning Carrig teams. In addition, he has also handed over to the club a 1953 Munster Senior Hurling Championship medal which he won when he played on the Cork team that beat Tipperary 3-10 to 1-11. These are valuable additons to our Club Memorabilia and we are very grateful to Willie John.

Senior Hurling League v Midleton in Midleton on Saturday 17th March
Midleton 3-12 Carrigtwohill 0-13
The much awaited senior hurling league game between Carrig and Midleton failed to live up to pre-match expectation and Midleton had an easy win over a disappointing Carrig side. The game lacked the intensity of recent league encounters and Midleton gained some modicum of revenge for last summer's championship defeat.

SHL v Bishoptown in Bishoptown on Sunday 11th March
Bishopstown 3-6 Carrigtwohill 3-5.
It's tough at the top. Carrig got applauded onto the field at Bishopstown as recognition for county Champions status - but that was the end of any generousity or respect from the City side. The home side were clearly fired up for the encounter and the first few minutes were were a war of attrition and not for the faint hearted.

Niall McCarthy wins Cork GAA Sportstar of the Year.
Congratulations to Niall McCarthy who has been named as the C103/96FM Cork GAA Sportstar of the Year for 2011.
Niall, who was honoured for his pivotal role in Carrig's county championship success, received his award at a gala function in the Rochestown Park Hotel on Friday night, 20th January 2012.
He beat off stiff competition from 11 other monthly winners, including the Cork Ladies footballer Deirdre Reilly, the UCC Sigerson Cup winning coach Billy Morgan, the Nemo Rangers footballer Derek Kavanagh and a host of other prominent club players from around the county.
Niall made a terrific speech in which he thanked his family, the club and everybody involved with the senior hurling team. He also put everyone on notice that Carrig weren't going to relinquish their title without a mighty struggle. click here to view photos |
