East Cork League Plate Final v Lisgoold on Monday June 20th
Carrigtwohill were to meet Lisgoold in the league final for the plate on Monday evening June 20th. Playing conditions were far from ideal on what had been a day of very heavy rain however both sides togged out undeterred by the challenge posed by the Irish weather!
Carrig got off to a good start scoring the opening point of the game and they continued along these lines for the first ten minutes before Lisgoold started to respond. Having been beaten by this side only a few weeks previously Carrig knew that winning this final was never going to be an easy task. The full back line of Lorraine, Sarah and Kate stayed tight on their players to ensure that Lisgoold rarely got a chance on goals. When a Lisgoold forward did manage to break through the Carrig line of defense a great save made by goalkeeper Oonagh meant that the ball was cleared with minimal damage done in what was a pivotal moment of the game for Carrig. True to the top form that she’d been playing in all season Latisha at centre back was instrumental in catching kick outs and feeding the ball in to the forward line. Strongly supported by wing backs Tia and Roisin this half back line proved very difficult to break through. Ines too proved a strong addition to the backs when she was brought on in the second half. Nora and Ciara at midfield ensured that Carrig dominated play in the centre of the pitch. The half forward line of Susan, Chloe and Lisa fought tirelessly to maintain possession and keep the Lisgoold backs on their toes throughout, creating vital scoring opportunities for Carrig and popping points over the bar. Ciara Brennan and Ciara O’ Gorman in the full forward line scored great goals precisely when they were needed.
The first coming in the first half to ensure that Carrig went in to half time ahead if only by a slight margin and the second in the second half so that in the final few minutes of the game it was clear that this was going to be Carrig’s day. Aoife Dawlton completed this full forward line working as hard and playing as well as ever to score some great points for Carrig. Similarly to the semi-final against Mayfield, this was a hard fought and well deserved victory for Carrig. Again it was the girls’ determination, spirit and their ability to work together as a team that saw them come away victorious by five points and winners of the plate. Both this game and the Mayfield game highlighted how far this young team has already come this season. If the skill and heart that they demonstrated in both the semi-final and the final is anything to go by then this may well be a team to look out for for some time to come! Well done to all involved!

East Cork League Plate Semi-Final v Mayfield on June 13th
Carrigtwohill 2-5 Mayfield 1-1
The U12s had a very busy and successful time mid June having made it to the East Cork League Plate semi-final against Mayfield. This game was played away on June 13th. On what was one of the few beautiful summer’s evenings we’ve had this year Carrig started off strong winning good possession at midfield and working the ball well into the forward line.
This resulted in a number of points that put Carrig into the lead. Mayfield responded well and although they failed to convert some scoring chances it was clear from the outset that this game could be either sides for the taking. A goal coming from Susan Higgins gave Carrig the slight edge going in to half time. A place in a final is rarely won easily and Mayfield were not about to give up this game without a fight. They started the second half strongly by putting the ball into the back of the Carrig net.
This was to be the only goal that our girls were to concede however and Carrig fought hard to maintain their early lead in what was an intense game of football. A Ciara Brennan goal widened the gap between the two teams and Carrig went away with a 7 point win and a place in the final. Although the final score does not necessarily reflect it, this was a hotly contested match that this Carrig team worked very hard to win with everyone playing their hearts out from goalkeeper right through to the full forward line. It was not until the final whistle blew that players and spectators alike allowed themselves to celebrate a well deserved win.
League v Youghal in Carrigtwohill on Saturday 4th June
There was no let up for this team as they played their second match of the week against Youghal in Carrigtwohill on Saturday morning. This was a great game in which the Carrig girls really shone. Carrigtwohill dominated play in both halves, scoring some great goals and going away deserved winners. Well done girls!
League v Lisgoold in Lisgoold on Tuesday May 31st
This match was played on Tuesday May 31st in Lisgoold. Playing conditions were not ideal as the small size of the pitch was restricting and the ball spent a lot more time than necessary going over the sidelines! The girls did not let this deter them however and really put it up to a physically stronger Lisgoold side. Lisgoold got a few quick goals in the first half and although Carrig responded well they failed to convert some goal scoring opportunities.
This meant that Lisgoold went into the second half ahead. Carrig really came into their own in this half and dominated a lot of possession. Unfortunately they were unable to close the gap on Lisgoold. Well done to the Carrig girls who played their hearts out in what was a very busy week for them with their production of The Little Mermaid well under way!
League v St. Coleman’s in Carrigtwohill on Sunday May 22nd
The girls played their next game on Sunday May 22nd against St. Coleman’s in Carrigtwohill. On a very blustery evening Carrig went into an early lead with the opening point of the game. They maintained this lead throughout the first half by popping more points over and getting two well deserved goals. St. Coleman’s upped their game in the second half and although they managed to get a few goals past the Carrig defense it was not enough to close the gap that Carrig had created. In a well contested game of football our girls went away very happy with their first win of the season.
League v Fermoy in Carrigtwohill on Monday May 9th
The U12s have been busy with matches playing four games over the past number of weeks. The first of these was against Fermoy on Monday May 9th. Fermoy proved a very strong side and went away winners on this occasion.
League v Bride Rovers on Tuesday 26th April
The girls played their second league match away to Bride Rovers on Tuesday 26th April. Unfortunately this match too was not to go in Carrig’s favour, Bride Rovers taking full advantage of the physical strength they had over this young Carrig team. The girls scored some lovely points and a great goal in the second half but it was not enough to close the gap that Bride Rovers created early in the first half.
League v St. Coleman’s on Monday 18th April
The U12s had their first league match of the season on Monday 18th April in Carrigtwohill against St. Coleman’s. St. Coleman’s went into an early lead scoring a quick goal in the first few minutes and they maintained this lead for much of the first half. Carrigtwohill came into their stride towards the end of the half however and when the half time whistle went the teams were level. The second half did not go Carrig’s way and St. Coleman’s proved to be a physically stronger and more experienced team. Well done to the Carrig girls who put up a fighting display.

Leagues - There are 16 teams in this section which has been divided into two groups Carrigtwohill are in the second group which comprises: Watergrasshill, Carrigtwohill, Rockban, Glanmire, Inch, Erins Own, Ballinacurra and Mayfield. Leagues to start at the end of March with the finals in mid June.
U12 training takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3.00pm in the pitch.

The Under 12s kicked off their season with a friendly blitz in Erins Own on Saturday March 5th. The girls played four matches and had a great win in their last match against Erins Own. Having not trained this year this blitz proved a very promising start to what is sure to be a great season ahead. Well done to all involved.
