Dubai Sevens

On the 19th January 2009 a group of 27 players and supporters representing Carrigtwohill GAA club left the club grounds on route to Dubai to take part in the Annual Dubai Sevens which are organised by the Dubai Celts GAA Club in Dubai.
 
Carrig entered 4 teams in the competition - 2 teams in both codes.
6 teams took part in the hurling section made up of Carrig A and B, Dubai Celts A and B, Civil Services Dublin and a team from Abu Dhabi.
 
This was a very successful outing for the club as we carried home the title in A Hurling beating Dubai Celts in the Cup Final 4.7 - 1.1 and also qualifying for the plate final where we took the honours beating Dubai Celts B 5.1 - 0.6.
 
In the football section of the competition Carrig again entered two teams and again qualified for the finals in cup and plate sections.  10 teams took part in the football competition.  In the final Carrig defeated Dubai Celts A 6.7 - 1.3 but unfortunately lost to the same opposition in the plate final 1.3 - 0.2
 
In total Carrig played 6 hurling games winning 5 and played 10 football winning 8.
 
To round off a very successful competition, Carrig players took home the player of the tournament in both hurling and football with Seanie Farrell taking the hurling crown and Denis O'Connor taking the football honours.
